Bill Maher took aim at former Vice President Kamala Harris while discussing the role of gender in politics, and accused the once presidential hopeful of being a prime example of why the left keeps losing elections.

During Friday night’s episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher,” the comedian tackled the divide in American politics, noting “that divide is on steroids now and getting worse.”

As he continued, Maher called on the women of the Democratic party to “look tough” and stop “perpetuating victimhood, especially when it’s false.”

He added, “It’s not a great advertisement for leadership.”

Here’s where Maher laid into Harris, as he called out the title of her new memoir, “107 Days,” which details her 2024 presidential campaign. Maher made it clear he wasn’t a fan of the title, as he added, “It should’ve been called, ‘Everyone Sucks But Me.'”

He continued, “‘107 Days’ is a victim’s title cause, get it, she only had 107 days to win. Yeah, and a billion and a half dollars. And a built-in army of about 75 million people who’d vote for any human-adjacent life form that wasn’t Trump. But, in ‘107 Days,’ nothing is ever Kamala’s fault.”

Maher then blasted Harris for all the people she blamed for her failed presidential bid, including former President Joe Biden, California Governor Gavin Newsom and more.

Watch the full segment below.

Before concluding his message, Maher added, “Oh geez, it’s like a scene from ‘Bridget Jones Runs for President” for Christ’s sake.”

“Real Time With Bill Maher” airs Fridays on HBO.

Krist Noem confirmed that there will be an ICE presence at this year’s Super Bowl following the announcement that Bad Bunny will perform the halftime show.

In an interview with “The Benny Show,” Noem explained that they would be “all over that place” when asked if ICE would be on site checking the status of Bad Bunny fans hoping to attend his halftime show.

“There will be because the Department of Homeland Security is responsible for keeping it safe,” Noem said. “I have the responsibility for making sure everybody goes to the Super Bowl, has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave — and that’s what America’s about.”

She added: “So yeah, we’ll be all over that place. And I can’t, we’re going to enforce the law. So I think people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless they’re law-abiding Americans who love this country.”

The Department of Homeland Security secretary also called the NFL “weak” when asked if she was worried the organization would fight ICE’s presence.

“They suck and we’ll win and God will bless us and we’ll stand and be proud of ourselves at the end of the day and they won’t be able to sleep at night,” Noem said. “They don’t know what they believe and they’re so weak. We’ll fix it.”

It was announced Sunday that Bad Bunny would headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Puerto Rican singer set the gig after a highly profitable residency in Puerto Rico that reportedly added $733 million to the island’s economy. He will next tour in Europe and South America and previously spoke about not setting dates in the United States due to concerns ICE would target his performances.

Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager-turned-adviser for the Department of Homeland Security, already warned about ICE’s show of force during Bad Bunny’s performance on “The Benny Show” earlier this week.

“I don’t care if it’s a concert for Johnny Smith or Bad Bunny or anybody else,” the DHS adviser told Johnson. “We’re going to do enforcement everywhere. We are going to make Americans safe. That is a directive from the president. If you’re in this country illegally, do yourself a favor: go home.”

He added: “We will find you. We will apprehend you. We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you. So know that that is a very real situation under this administration, which is completely contrary to how it used to be.”

Fallon Jokes That Trump Is More Focused on ‘Much Bigger Threat’ Bad Bunny Than Government Shutdown | Video https://www.thewrap.com/jimmy-fallon-trump-government-shutdown-bad-bunny-super-bowl-ice/ Fri, 03 Oct 2025 18:14:57 +0000 https://www.thewrap.com/?p=7857509 The "Tonight Show" host says the president is coming up with fake reasons to avoid the Democrats using a "special excuse generator"

Jimmy Fallon joked that President Donald Trump has failed to wrap up the government shutdown because he’s more concerned with Bad Bunny headlining the Super Bowl LX halftime show.

“It’s day two of the government shutdown and Trump still hasn’t met with the Democrats to try and reach a deal,” Fallon explained on Thursday’s episode of “The Tonight Show,” mentioning that Trump has been using a “special excuse generator” to make up reasons why he’s unable to gather the politicians.

One of the few reasons the generator came up with was that Trump got stuck in an elevator and that he wanted the Oval Office to look like a Ferrero Rocher. But the third option had everything to do with the three-time Grammy award-winner hitting the stage.

“I have to deal with a much bigger threat … Bad Bunny’s halftime show,” Fallon said aloud mocking Trump’s reasoning.

Fallon’s joke tied in to Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s former campaign manager turned adviser for the Department of Homeland Security, issuing a warning that ICE may pop up at the big game.

Lewandowski made an appearance on Benny Johnson’s web series, titled “The Benny Show,” on Wednesday, where he made it clear that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency planned to have a presence at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California in February, where the upcoming Super Bowl is set to take place. Bad Bunny was officially named the halftime performer for the big game on Sunday.

Jon Stewart thinks that Donald Trump sending the military to U.S. cities will act like a preseason for his war with Iran and Russia.

In Thursday’s episode of “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart,” the host jokingly said he “co-signs” the president’s recent comments that the military could use U.S. cities as “training grounds.” Of course, most of the cities he suggested happened to be predominantly blue ones.

“Donald Trump thought it might be a good idea for our military to practice on American cities, and it created a little bit of an uproar,” Stewart said. “And I just have to co-sign the idea. You know, it is so hard to get in real game work. The preseason stuff – it’s very difficult to prepare your team for when those first games are going to come down.”

He continued: “So, I absolutely understand. He’s probably going to get us into a war. He tried with the bombing of Iran, or not being able to really be forceful against Vladimir Putin. And boy, he’s making a great case here. These guys got to get in the work. And why not let them get in that work on people that didn’t vote for you? That makes total sense.”

On Tuesday, Trump spoke at Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s meeting at Quantico that hosted high-ranking military generals. The president expressed interest in using U.S. cities like Chicago and Portland as practice for the military.

“It’s a war from within,” Trump said. “We’re under invasion from within.”

He added: “I told Pete [Hegseth] we should use some of these dangerous cities as training grounds for our military National Guard.”

Jane Fonda blasted leaders of the Democratic Party, saying that none of them are “good enough” to lead Americans in the fight against President Donald Trump and that it’s time for a change.

“Not good enough,” the actress and longtime activist told CNN’s Dana Bash when asked about how the left-wing political party was doing during an appearance on “Inside Politics” on Wednesday.

“I don’t feel that our leaders are doing what they need to do,” Fonda added. “If you can’t change the people, change the people.”

The “Grace and Frankie” star appeared on the show in part to promote the relaunch of her late father Henry Fonda’s Committee for the First Amendment, which also comes in the wake of Jimmy Kimmel’s recent ABC suspension.

On Wednesday, Fonda enlisted more than 550 of her superstar peers in Hollywood to help relaunch Committee for the First Amendment, which was originally created during a “dark time when the federal government repressed and persecuted American citizens for their political beliefs.”

Aaron Sorkin, Alyssa Milano, Anjelica Huston, Barbra Streisand, Ben Stiller, Billy Crystal, Christine Baranski, Ethan Hawke, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Julianne Moore, Lily Tomlin, Mandy Patinkin, Melanie Griffith, Natalie Portman, Nicolas Cage, Olivia Wilde, Sam Waterston, Susan Sarandon, Viola Davis, Whoopi Goldberg and Winona Ryder, among many more A-Listers, are standing together in defense of Americans’ constitutional rights.

Fonda explained that she has revitalized the effort out of concern that Americans’ rights are under attack by Trump.

“He is amassing power in a way that will destroy our democracy. And so we‘re going to stand up. We‘re creatives. We‘re storytellers. We can do it creatively. We can have a good time while we do it,” Fonda said to Bash. “We we want to push back and we want to make a model of what creative non-violent, non-cooperation looks like. That doesn’t mean just showing up for people who are under attack like Jimmy Kimmel.”

She continued: “We want to be proactive and we want show what that can look like and violence will not be tolerated. We don’t want any of that, but we want we want move forward with love with unity, with solidarity.”

Gomez

FCC chairman Brendan Carr will testify before the Senate Commerce Committee about government censorship after facing criticism for comments he made leading up to Disney’s suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

An individual familiar with the matter tells TheWrap that a date for the hearing has not been set. FCC commissioners Anna M. Gomez and Olivia Trusty are also slated to appear.

A representative for the FCC did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.

The late night host was pulled from the airwaves over comments made about Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin. In a podcast interview following the comments, Carr threatened to take action against Disney and Kimmel over the remarks.

“When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,” he said at the time. “These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Hours after the interview, broadcast station owners Nexstar and Sinclair pulled Kimmel from their airwaves and ABC would later follow suit. The move would trigger protests from writers and union members, calls to cancel Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ subscriptions and an open letter from the American Civil Liberties Union signed by over 400 artists condemning the suspension.

Disney said it pulled Kimmel to “avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” adding that some of his comments were “ill-timed and thus insensitive.” But after “thoughtful conversations” with Kimmel over multiple days, a decision was reached for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to return six days later.

Though Nexstar and Sinclair would continue to preempt the show following Kimmel’s return, they both eventually brought him back to the airwaves later that week following discussions with Disney leadership. An insider familiar with those discussions told TheWrap that no editorial or content concessions were made between Disney and Sinclair and Nexstar.

Carr’s comments also received pushback from both sides of the political aisle, with Senate Commerce Committee chair Ted Cruz notably slamming them as “dangerous as hell” on his podcast, “Verdict With Ted Cruz.”

“I’ve gotta say, that’s right out of ‘Goodfellas.’ That’s right out of a mafioso coming into a bar going, ‘Nice bar you have here. It’d be a shame if something happened to it,’” he said.

“I’ve gotta say, look, I understand. Jimmy Kimmel has mocked me so many times I cannot count. The corporate media, they’re dishonest, they are liars, I hate what Jimmy Kimmel said,” Cruz continued. “But let me tell you, if the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don’t like what you, the media, have said. We’re going to ban you from the airwaves if you don’t say what we like,’ that will end up bad for conservatives.”

The FCC’s Open Committee meeting earlier this week was also hit with protestors calling on Carr to be fired.

Meanwhile, Sens. Edward J. Markey, Chuck Schumer, Amy Klobuchar, Maria Cantwell and Ben Ray Luján were among 11 politicians previously calling for Carr to testify before the committee in order to explain his statements against ABC and Kimmel.

“As the Committee with jurisdiction over the FCC, it is our Constitutional duty to conduct oversight over this matter and demand Chairman Carr answer for this unprecedented attack on the First Amendment,” they said in a letter to Cruz. “You have long prioritized conducting oversight to ensure our government is not being used to weaponize the censorship of speech. At a time when free speech is under threat, this hearing could not be more important for the American people. We look forward to working with you on this hearing with Chairman Carr and upholding our duty to conduct robust oversight over the FCC.”

During Concordia’s 2025 Summit, Carr said Democrats were “completely misrepresenting” the work of the FCC and that allegations that he threatened to revoke ABC’s broadcast license if they didn’t fire Kimmel “did not happen in any way, shape or form.”

Carr further stated that he and the FCC “expressed no view” on the merits of complaints about Kimmel and that the FCC is trying to empower local TV stations to serve the needs of their local communities.

“You got national programmers — like Disney, like Comcast, like Paramount — that aren’t licensed by the FCC, that have no public interest obligation, and they provide a lot of the primetime shows that the licensed TV stations put out over the air. And what’s happened over the years is that those national programmers have exerted more and more control and pressure on the local TV stations,” he said. “They don’t feel like they can push back on the national programmers, even when they think there’s some content that they don’t think in their judgment, not my judgment, makes sense for the local communities.”

The chairman added that the agency welcomes “wide open, robust, uninhibited debate” on social media and cable, but argued broadcast TV is “just different.”

“It’s got a license. There’s a public interest standard, and Congress has called on the FCC to enforce that. And if people don’t like it, they can go to Congress and change the law, or they can turn their license in,” he concluded. “There are people that are interested in trying to create a narrative that, simply, I don’t think exists.”

“The Daily Show” drew comparisons between the government shutdown and the breakup of Hollywood couple Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban during Wednesday’s episode.

“I thought the worse thing that could happen this week was when Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban broke up,” host Ronny Chieng said during his monologue Wednesday evening. “I mean, I know, if two hot Australians with the same face can’t make it work then what hope is there for the rest of us?”

However, as Chieng told viewers tuning in, things got much worse when the government shut down just after midnight Wednesday — after Republicans and Democrats failed to move forward on a spending bill.

He continued, “But then, to make it worse, my favorite federal government also couldn’t make it work.”

“Look, this is a classic dispute between the parties,” he added. “Democrats say that the government should help pay for health care, and Republicans say, ‘That’s what GoFundMe is for.’ But, because Republicans need Democratic votes to keep the government open, the two parties have to come together.”

Word of Kidman and Urban’s divorce broke Monday, when reports claimed the spouses had separated earlier this year after 19 years of marriage. Kidman then filed for divorce on Tuesday, citing “irreconcilable differences” in documents obtained by TheWrap.

Neither Kidman nor Urban have publicly addressed the split.

As for the government shutdown, at the time of this writing, there’s currently no end in sight, as leaders from both sides continue to point the finger of blame at the other.

“The Daily Show” airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.

Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at the Federal Communications Commission Wednesday evening after it was revealed that the agency ceased operating their complaint phone line amid the government shutdown.

The comedian called the update a “silver lining to the shutdown” during Wednesday’s monologue for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” and pondered what the news meant for his jokes moving forward.

“According to their official website, during the shutdown, our friends at the FCC will cease their response to consumer complaint and inquiry phone lines,” Kimmel explained at the top of the show. “I’m not a lawyer, but I think this means we can now say whatever we want on TV. I mean, there’s nobody that takes the complaint.”

As a way to test this potential freedom, Kimmel dared his longtime sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, to say “the dirtiest and most inappropriate thing” he could say — all while dressed as a pigeon.

While Rodriguez did appear to spew off some NSFW phrases, viewers at home were not clued in to what was said, as the show ultimately censored the sidekick. (Though, it does seem like Rodriguez said something along the lines of, “F–k my a–hole, motherf—er.”)

Later on in the monologue, Kimmel criticized President Donald Trump’s response to the government shutdown, including his repeated sharing of racist A.I. videos of Congressman Hakeem Jeffries.

“That video was posted by the President of the United States,” Kimmel added. “A Black man with a sombrero with mariachi. That’s how out of it this guy is. He can’t even keep his racism straight.”

This isn’t the first time Kimmel has taunted the FCC or President Trump this week. Kimmel, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, found himself briefly suspended after a controversy tied to his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer.

His suspension came amid condemnation from both FCC Chair Brendan Carr and Trump, with many accusing the administration of attacking free speech in the process.

Kimmel returned to the air on Sept. 23 after a multi-day suspension — though, his show was preempted by Nexstar and Sinclair until this past Friday.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.

Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager-turned-adviser for the Department of Homeland Security, issued a warning about ICE’s potential presence at Super Bowl LX.

Lewandowski made an appearance on Benny Johnson’s web series, titled “The Benny Show,” on Wednesday, where he made it clear that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency planned to have a presence at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. in February, where the upcoming Super Bowl is set to take place. Bad Bunny was officially named the halftime performer for the big game on Sunday.

Lewandowski also vowed that there was “nowhere that you can provide safe haven to people in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else.”

“We will find you. We will apprehend you,” he further declared. “We will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you. So know that that is a very real situation under this administration, which is completely contrary to what how it used to be.”

Lewandowski went on to blast the NFL, accusing the sports organization of being too “woke” and slamming the league for picking someone who “seems to hate America.”

The commentator is likely referring to Bad Bunny’s decision to exclude the U.S. from his recent “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” world tour out of fear that ICE would target his shows.

The NFL did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Leonardo DiCaprio mourned the loss of Dr. Jane Goodall on Wednesday by penning a lengthy tribute for the famed zoologist, who he called his personal “hero.”

Goodall, a world-renowned primatologist and animal rights advocate, died from natural causes at the age of 91, her institute confirmed Wednesday, leaving fans of her work — including the Oscar winner — grief-stricken in the aftermath.

DiCaprio, an environmental activist in his own right, took to social media upon learning of Goodall’s death and posted a poignant tribute in her honor.

“Jane Goodall devoted her life to protecting our planet and giving a voice to the wild animals and the ecosystems they inhabit,” DiCaprio said on Instagram. “Her groundbreaking research on Chimpanzees in Tanzania transformed our understanding of how our closest relatives live, socialize and think—reminding us that we are deeply connected not only to Chimpanzees and the other great apes, but to all life.”

He continued: “For decades, Jane traveled the world with tireless energy, awakening generations to the wonder of the natural world. She spoke directly to the next generation, instilling hope, responsibility and the belief that every individual can make a difference. She inspired millions to care, to act and to hope. She never stopped.”

In his post, DiCaprio shared several pictures of himself with Goodall, as the two had developed a friendship through their shared causes. The two appeared together at a number of events, including the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation Gala and United Nations ceremonies. The pair also both served as executive producers on the film “Howl,” directed by E. Elias Merhige.

“Now, we all must carry the torch for her in protecting our one shared home,” DiCaprio concluded.
