Buckle up, Swifties: Taylor has even more music coming out. Just one day after the release of her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” the pop star announced she has re-recorded acoustic versions of eight of the record’s songs.

“File this under ‘save your best for the finale,'” Swift wrote on social media. “I think my favorite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises. So I went back into the studio with Max and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the ‘Showgirl’ songs with brand new vocals and production! Cannot WAIT for you to hear.”

Swift noted the songs include: “Life Is A Song Acoustic Version with “Opalite (Life Is A Song Acoustic Version)” and “Ruin the Friendship (My Advice Version),” “Dressing Room Rehearsal Version with “Wi$h Li$t (Settled Down Acoustic Version)” and “The Life of a Showgirl (Dressing Room Rehearsal Acoustic Version),” “Alone In My Tower Acoustic Version with “The Fate of Ophelia (Alone In My Tower Acoustic Version)” and “Eldest Daughter (Now You’re Home Acoustic Version),” and “So Glamorous Cabaret Version with “Elizabeth Taylor (So Glamorous Cabaret Version)” and Elizabeth Taylor (Original Songwriting Voice Memo).”

The four limited release CDs will be available on Swift’s website for the next 24 hours and/or while supplies last.

Bill O’Reilly Defends Bad Bunny Super Bowl Pick, Offers to ‘Help’ if ICE Interferes: ‘Call Me’ | Video https://www.thewrap.com/bill-oreilly-defend-bad-bunny-super-bowl-halftime-pick-help-ice/ Sat, 04 Oct 2025 23:35:50 +0000 https://www.thewrap.com/?p=7858370 "I'm going to give Bad Bunny a chance," the 76-year-old former Fox News host says. "Bad Bunny's got like three-and-a-half minutes with me"

Bill O’Reilly called soon-t0-be Super Bowl halftime artist Bad Bunny several cheeky nicknames – “Malevolent Rabbit,” “B.B.” and “the Bunny Guy” – but the 76-year-old career conservative talking head has no problem with the NFL’s selection, plans to give him a chance … and promised to step in if ICE actually interferes.

The Puerto Rican singer and rapper was announced Tuesday as the main performer for Super Bowl 26, despite never recording any songs (fully) in English and his ongoing refusal to tour in the United States, saying he fears immigration officials would target his audience.

“The Bunny Guy has been selected to be the halftime entertainment – I don’t care,” O’Reilly chuckled on his “No Spin News” show this week. “But it’s such a good story.”

To give his viewers a taste of what’s to come, O’Reilly played a brief clip from one of his music videos.

“That was good, huh? Not exactly The Four Tops, but I’m an old guy and you can make fun of me,” O’Reilly said. “Go ahead. OK, so that’s Bad Bunny. Doesn’t sing songs in English. Never had an English song. But he does speak English.”

O’Reilly made note of the NFL’s current era of halftime artists – Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Rihanna, Eminem, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg – comes courtesy of Roc Nation founder Jay-Z, who books the league’s entertainment. The Bad Bunny selection sparked backlash for his lack of English lyrics and stance on immigration politics – but O’Reilly didn’t flinch at any of that.

“Is this uh, ‘Good for America?,” O’Reilly mused, chuckling. “I don’t think it’s bad for America. I mean, most people watching aren’t going to be that favorable to the Bunny Guy, but I don’t know if it’s a deficit,” playing a clip of the artist [real name: Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio] explaining his concerns about ICE posting up outside his concert venues.

When asked this week whether ICE really planned to target the show at the home of the San Francisco 49ers, DHS secretary Kristi Noem said agents will be “all over that place.”

“So, the Bunny guy is is afraid to come here,” O’Reilly said. “OK, at least he’s honest, right? I like the Bunny being honest. … So, I could reassure you BB – a little nickname I’m giving him – you can tour in the United States. ICE is not going to bother you. And if they bother you, I’ll help you. I’ll actually uh go wherever you are. You call me … and I’ll actually go where you are until ICE knock it off.”

As for the performance itself, O’Reilly says “The Bunny Guy” has a short leash to keep him entertained.

“I give everybody a chance,” O’Reilly said. “I’m going to give Bad Bunny a chance. Bad Bunny’s got like three-and-a-half minutes with me. If he arrests my attention, I’ll watch the rest. If he doesn’t, I’m gone.”

But he doubled down on his offer for whatever support he can give: “You come to the USA. Anybody hassles you, you let me know.”

Watch the entire segment – and hear who O’Reilly would have liked to see perform at the Super Bowl halftime show – in the video above.

Taylor Swift had no problem explaining the meaning behind “Actually Romantic,” one of the songs of her latest album “The Life of a Showgirl.” In the Amazon Music introduction for the tune, Swift explains it’s “a song about realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.”

Charli xcx opened up for Swift during her Reputation tour, but many fans believe there is some sort of discord or feud simmering between the pair.

“And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea,” she continued.

She added, “It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting you or having a problem with you but you take that and just accept it as love and you accept it as attention and affection, and how flattering that somebody has made you such a big part of their reality when you didn’t even think about this. It’s actually pretty romantic if you really think about it.”

The song hints at a friendship gone wrong. Swift sings, “High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song sayin’ it makes you sick to see my face / Some people might be offended.”

In the chorus, she adds, “But it’s actually sweet / All the time you’ve spent on me. It’s honestly wild / All the effort you’ve put in / It’s actually romantic / I really gotta hand it to you / No man has ever loved me like you do.”

Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, the guitarist for English rock band Oasis, shared a major health update with fans on Friday and confirmed he’d be stepping away from the reunion tour.

Arthurs took to Instagram and shared that he was currently battling prostate cancer, which he revealed he was diagnosed with earlier in the year.

“The good news is I’m responding really well to treatment, which meant I could be part of this incredible tour,” Arthurs wrote to fans. “Now, I am having to take a planned break for the next phase of my care, so I’ll be missing the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.”

As he continued, Arthurs told his fans that he was “really sad to be missing these shows.”

Yet, he remained optimistic about his health, noting that he’s was “feeling good” and planned to “be back ready to go in time for South America.”

Arthurs — a founding member of Oasis — signed off his update: “Have an amazing time if you’re going this month and I’ll see you back onstage with the band in November.”

Arthurs’ Oasis bandmates showed their love for the guitarist by resharing his announcement on the band’s Instagram page. They also wrote, “Wishing you all the best with your treatment.”

Arthurs has battled cancer before, having previously been diagnosed with tonsil cancer — a diagnosis he shared in 2022 while on tour with Liam Gallagher.

He took a break from playing at the time. Though, Arthurs shared he went into remission in September of that same year.

Oasis announced their reunion tour in August 2024 after brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher ended their near 15-year feud.

Oasis Live ’25 Tour kicked off in July and is expected to conclude next month when the band performs in São Paulo, Brazil.

Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Breaks Day 1 Streaming Records on Spotify, Apple and Amazon Music https://www.thewrap.com/taylor-swift-the-life-of-a-showgirl-streaming-records/ Sat, 04 Oct 2025 00:49:57 +0000 https://www.thewrap.com/?p=7858073 Swift's 12th studio album has already made history across streaming services on its first day of release

The Life of a Showgirl,” the latest album from Taylor Swift, is already on a record-breaking run.

Swift’s 12th studio album broke multiple records after it released on Friday, hitting historic numbers on Amazon Music, Apple Music and Spotify. These single-day records were attributed not only to her album as a whole, but also to its lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia.”

At 8:46 a.m. PST, Spotify announced on X that “The Life of a Showgirl” had already become the most-streamed album in a single day so far in 2025. By 3 p.m., Spotify cited “Ophelia” as the most-streamed song in a single day in the history of the music platform.

The song remained the same over at Apple Music. There, the album likewise broke the record for the most streams in its first day so far in 2025, the music streaming platform announced on Instagram. While “The Fate of Ophelia” has not yet broken the all-time record like it did at Spotify, Apple Music did say it had the most first-day listens of any song in 2025.

Even better news for Swift came from Amazon Music. On X, the streamer announced that “The Life of a Showgirl” was the most-streamed album of all time in its first day on the service.

These broken records are hardly a surprise, with Swift’s recent albums often coming with history-making numbers. In a different medium, Swift saw similar numbers earlier in 2025, with her appearance on now-fiancé Travis Kelce’s podcast “New Heights” breaking YouTube’s podcast record with 13 million views in a single day. It was there that Swift announced the Oct. 3 release of “The Life of a Showgirl.”

Heading into the weekend, TheWrap is also looking at the box office to gauge Swift’s continued “Showgirl” successes. AMC theaters across the country are screning a “The Life of a Showgirl” release party event film. Clocking in at 89 minutes, the listening party event premiered the first music video for the album (“The Fate of Ophelia”) alongside lyric videos and what Swift described as “never-before-seen personal reflections” about the new music. The film also played at a number of Regal and Cinemark locations across the country.

“I hereby invite you to a dazzling soirée, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl: Oct 3 – Oct 5 only in cinemas!” Swift said on X.

While expected to top the box office charts this weekend, tracking for “Release Party of a Showgirl” is hovering around $35 million. That’s little more than a third of the $93 million opening that “The Eras Tour” earned in 2023 en route to becoming by far the highest grossing concert film of all time with $261.6 million worldwide.

Every Song on Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Ranked https://www.thewrap.com/best-taylor-swift-the-life-of-a-showgirl-songs-ranked/ Fri, 03 Oct 2025 21:51:19 +0000 https://www.thewrap.com/?p=7857602 Taylor Swift's 12-track pop album pleased critics and split fans but see which ones topped our list

The post Every Song on Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Ranked appeared first on TheWrap.

]]>
Taylor Swift hyped up her 12th studio album “The Life of a Showgirl” ahead of Friday’s release, saying the 12-track release felt carefully curated as opposed to a “data dump of emotions.” (Her 11th, “The Tortured Poets Department,” ultimately had a total 31 songs.)

Produced in partnership with Max Martin and Shellback, with whom she collaborated on “1989” and “Reputation,” Swift said “The Life of a Showgirl” was orchestrated with pop precision with some of the best in the business. This album is the shortest of her discography since her self-titled debut in 2006.

The release pays homage to the life behind the scenes of a showgirl, written as she was on her European leg of “The Eras Tour.” Her now fiancé Travis Kelce promised all bangers on his podcast “New Heights.” Keep reading to see if TheWrap agrees.

12. “Honey”

Swift is not a fan of being called “honey,” but she is more than comfortable with the love of her life redefining the word for her. The upbeat track is a sweet reclamation of the doting pet names, but other than that the song feels like a skip. Still, the track is an additional testament to Kelce’s unabashed love and adoration for the pop star.

11. “Father Figure”

George Michael’s estate gave Swift the greenlight to sample his 1987 hit of the same name for this album. Swift’s poetic lyricism elevates the song, which fans have theorized is about Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun. The singer says a younger artist trusted a father figure but in the end the said figure “pulled the wrong trigger.” Swift will admittedly hold grudges, even re-recording four albums to stick it the record labels, and this song further proves that point. The song contained impactful storytelling, but the level of banger-ness, as Kelce might say, is not as high as the other 10.

10. “Ruin the Friendship”

This nostalgic anthem may have had the biggest twist on the entire album, ending at her childhood friend’s graveside. Swift leaned on her storytelling in the pop song, telling her fans to kiss their best friends rather than live to regret it. The sweet tune made a sharp turn from childhood nostalgia to adulthood regret in the bridge as Swift headed back to Nashville for her childhood crush’s funeral, whispering “should’ve kissed you anyway.” Swifties also got another nod to the pop star’s red-headed best friend Abigail.

9. “Actually Romantic”

In this assumed Charli XCX diss track, Swift references an artist gossiping behind her back to her ex, seemingly referring to the “Brat” singer and The 1975 bandmate Matty Healy. The track goes on to speak broadly about how Swift’s haters are her motivators, and she finds the obsession over her flaws “actually romantic.” The track starts with a simple electric guitar accompaniment and expands into a produced track in which Swift reveals that s–t-talking is like dirty talk for her, so keep it coming.

8. “CANCELLED!”

Swift may have pledged her allegiance to best friend Blake Lively with this “Reputation”-esque track after a year full of lawsuits and subpoenas. The superstar has let us know that she likes her friends canceled and cloaked in scandal. Produced by Martin and Shellback, the song alludes to how it’s easy to love the pop star when she’s on top and easy to ditch her when she’s not, but real friends “with matching scars” stick around.

7. “Eldest Daughter”

This Track 5 may not have been made equally to the others in its company (see “All Too Well” and “My Tears Ricochet”). But as an eldest daughter, it earned some bonus points from me. The piano ballad intimately discusses the plights of being an eldest daughter with something to prove before Swift admits she’s not a bad bitch or a savage. The awkward incorporation of such slang undercuts what could’ve been a top track from the album.

6. “Opalite”

Kelce admitted this song was his favorite from the album, and it’s no surprise as Swift says the Chiefs tight end turned her sky to the color of the titular gemstone. This track is reminiscent of the bubbly pop from Swift’s album “1989” with a catchy chorus and backup vocals. The pop star confesses that her brother said she was consistently into trash guys but her mom knew that better was coming in time.

5. “Wi$h Li$t”

For Swifties who have wanted a happy ending for the pop singer, “Wi$h Li$t” revealed that her dreams may be coming true. Swift teased that all she really wants is a basketball hoop in the yard, a couple kids and a best friend who she thinks is hot — and maybe some peace from the public. Kelce may be the one to check off all of these boxes. Instead of the superficial things that she used to crave, she just wants the love of her life.

4. “The Fate of Ophelia”

The lead single from the album introduced listeners into the world of a showgirl with a catchy beat and complex lyricism. Alluding to Shakespeare’s tragic death of Ophelia, Swift says that her love, seemingly Kelce, broke her curse of doom. The pop star even pledged allegiance to his team and his vibes after admitting the NFL star was the only one who possessed the key to save her from descending into madness.

3. “Wood”

Swift teased bangers, and this one lives up to the hype. She threw her superstitions out the window after meeting the right man, no longer having to knock on wood. The track leaned into Swift’s steamier side, hinting at a double entendre in the title, potentially taking a page from collaborator Sabrina Carpenter’s book.

2. “Elizabeth Taylor”

This song contains as much star quality as its eponym. The sultry beat and production on this track encapsulate the behind the scenes of a showgirl’s picturesque lifestyle, which Swift admits is not as glamorous as it seems. Swift referenced Portofino, where Richard Burton proposed to Elizabeth Taylor and asks “Do you think it’s forever?,” hinting at her own engagement to Kelce. The track delivers on the catchy premise.

1. “The Life of a Showgirl”

The titular track fully encompasses the album’s messages and themes. Swift teased that she wanted fans to peek behind the curtain, but this song reveals that no one will truly know the life of a showgirl unless they are one themselves. Carpenter slots perfectly into the track on the second verse as a rising showgirl herself. Swift leaned into Broadway influences with the key changes and the bridge of the song, which detailed her demanding rise to the top. “The Life of a Showgirl” placed a fitting bow on the succinct 12-track album ending with archival audio from Swift’s closing of her record-breaking tour.

Rapper and studio executive 50 Cent took to social media to celebrate being the only famous name Taylor Swift dropped on her “Life of a Showgirl” album.

“@taylorswift sh-t is popping right now, she shout me out, she don’t shout you out,” 50 Cent said in an Instagram post on Friday. “LOL 😆 THIS IS FOR BIG TIMERS ONLY! @50centaction wait I’m the only shout out on the whole album.”

His name comes up on Swift’s sixth track “Ruin the Friendship.”

The lyrics are as follows: “And it was not an invitation / But as the 50 Cеnt song played (Song played) / Should’ve kissed you anyway (Anyway) / And it was not (And it was not) convenient (Convenient), no / Would’ve been the best mistake / Should’ve kissed you anyway, hey-ey.”

“Life of a Showgirl,” Swift’s 12th studio album dropped on Friday.

During a sit-down with BBC Radio 1 on Friday, Swift said the album has some “teeth to it,” mentioning that it’s the one project she’s released that spotlights her life as it was when she penned it.

“I have such uncomplicated feelings of joy about it,” Swift explained. “I do not feel any twisted, tortured way about it, which is not how I felt about the last album, because there was such a lag time between when you make music and then you put it out, there’s often times your life can make drastic changes in those times. With this album, my life is in exactly the same spot as when I wrote the record.”

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ inaugural Future Ruins music and film festival has been canceled due to “logistical challenges and complications,” the Oscar winners announced on Friday.

The Future Ruins festival was meant to be a celebration of movie music and would have featured appearances from John Carpenter, Terence Blanchard, Howard Shore and others. The first-time endeavor was scheduled for Nov. 8 in Los Angeles.

“Unfortunately Future Ruins will not move forward this year,” Reznor and Ross said in a statement, shared on the festival’s website. “The reality is, due to a number of logistical challenges and complications, we feel we cannot provide the experience that’s defined what this event was always intended to be. Rather than compromise, we’re choosing to re-think and re-evaluate. Meanwhile, we are sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate all the interest and support. Refunds will be automatically issued and ticket holders will receive an email with more information.”

The full lineup of performers for the now-scrapped Future Ruins festival included Cristobal Tapia de Veer, Ben Salisbury & Geoff Barrow, Danny Elfman, Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Howard Shore, Isobel Waller-Bridge, John Carpenter, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein, Mark Mothersbaugh, Questlove, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Tamar-kali, Terence Blanchard, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka.

The festival was originally announced by the Nine Inch Nails duo back in May. It was billed as an immersive, three-stage experience.

“It’s about giving people who are, literally, the best in the world at taking audiences on an emotional ride via music the opportunity to tell new stories in an interesting live setting,” Reznor said at the time. “There’s no headliner. There’s no hierarchy. This is a stacked lineup of visionaries doing something you might not see again.”

The post Does Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Feature a Charli XCX Diss Track? Here’s What You Should Know appeared first on TheWrap.

]]>
Fans are convinced one song on Taylor Swift’s new album “The Life of a Showgirl” is a diss track about “Brat” Grammy winner Charli XCX. Here’s why.

First, to rewind: In 2024, XCX’s album “Brat” featured a song titled “Sympathy Is a Knife,” which many believe to be about Swift. In that song, XCX sings in the first verse, “I don’t wanna force a smile / This one girl taps my insecurities.” Later, in the second verse, XCX confesses, “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick.”

XCX was dating her future husband, George Daniel, at the time she wrote “Sympathy Is a Knife,” who is the drummer and producer of The 1975. For a brief period in 2023, Swift dated The 1975 singer Matty Healy, which is why the leading theory is that the girl XCX didn’t want to see “backstage” at her boyfriend’s show was Swift and that she hoped Swift and Healy would break up quick.

(Spoiler alert: They did.)

Swift never acknowledged “Sympathy Is a Knife,” but there may be reason to now believe she was not happy about it, or, at least, XCX’s behavior regarding her and Healy’s relationship. On Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl,” there are lyrics in the album’s seventh track, titled “Actually Romantic,” which allude to XCX.

“I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave,” Swift sings at the start of the song, in a potential reference to XCX’s rumored drug use. “High-fived my ex and then you said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song sayin’ it makes you sick to see my face,” Swift adds.

The latter lyric appears to be a clear nod to “Sympathy Is a Knife,” while the former seems to be a reference to XCX purportedly celebrating the downfall of Swift’s relationship with Healy. (In multiple songs on 2024’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift implies that Healy informally ended their relationship by ghosting her altogether.)

The song’s title, “Actually Romantic,” is not only a clear reflection to its chorus, in which Swift cheekily portrays XCX’s references to her as flirting, but also one of the standout tracks on “Brat,” titled “Everything Is Romantic.” In the Spotify video that accompanies “Actually Romantic,” Swift can also be seen holding an apple, which may be yet another nod to a “Brat” song (titled, you guessed it, “Apple”).

XCX opened for Swift on her “Reputation” stadium tour in 2018. A year later, XCX told Pitchfork, “I’m really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to five-year-olds.”

Despite that comment, when Vulture published a cover story about XCX in the wake of the success of “Brat” in 2024, Swift was quoted as telling the outlet, “I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011. Her writing is surreal and inventive, always. She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off.”

This week, in an intro to “Actually Romantic” recorded for Amazon Music, Swift said the song is about “realizing that someone else has kind of had a one-sided adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about.”

“All of a sudden they start doing too much, and they start letting you know that, actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea,” Swift explained. “It’s presenting itself as them sort of resenting or having a problem with you, but taking that and you just accepting that as love and you just accepting it as attention and affection.”

Meanwhile, a video from XCX’s early “Brat” era also began recirculating Friday, in which the singer addresses what some fans perceived as “diss tracks” on the album. She in part explained that songs like “Sympathy Is a Knife” are more reflective of the insecurity she felt among other pop stars of her generation and weren’t necessarily meant as a dig at them.

“They’re really just about how it’s so complicated being an artist, especially a female artist where you are pitted against your peers but also expected to be best friends with every single person constantly, and if you’re not, you’re, like, deemed a bad feminist,” she said. “These songs are kind of about how as a woman, as an artist, some days you can feel on top of the world, some days you can feel unbelievably insecure, other days you can feel highly competitive, sometimes you can feel like literal trash — and it’s really emotional and complicated to deal with, and we’re not supposed to talk about it, but these songs do talk about it.”

The last time XCX was caught up in a “diss track” scandal was with “Girl, So Confusing,” also off of “Brat.” That song was (correctly) presumed to be about the singer’s relationship with Lorde. Lorde later joined XCX on a remix of the song to put the drama behind them. Maybe Swift and XCX will work it out on the remix too?

Taylor Swift says she won’t be going on tour anytime soon, as she’s too tired to even imagine tackling a show that would live up to the Eras Tour.

“I’m going to be really honest with you. I am so tired when I think about doing it again because I would want to do it really, really well again,” the pop star said during an appearance on BBC Radio 1 on Friday while promoting her new “The Life of a Showgirl” album.

“I’m so good right now,” Swift added. “My joints are good.”

She went on to say that since wrapping up the Eras Tour, which ran from March 2023 to December 2024, she’s picked up some hobbies, and she’s having fun with them.

“I could only do the Eras Tour when I was on the Eras Tour and that’s two years of having no other hobbies,” Swift shared. “And now I have the hobbies again, and I’m making it everybody’s problem.”

Her 12th studio album “The Life of a Showgirl” released on Friday. She said this album has some “teeth to it,” adding that it’s the one project she’s released that spotlights her life as it was when she penned it.
